I wanted to open up a dialogue about mania. Looking back this album sticks out in my mind in such a different way then any FOB album or any album by a traditional/legacy pop punk band, even more then Pray for The Wicked by Panic, even more than danger days by MCR or After laughter by Paramore etc. While I think mania is good and has good moments it’s so strange compared to anything else. It came out at a time where radio pop rock in general was swallowed by the imagine dragon and wanted to go real into genres like electro pop,EDM,Reggaeton, hip hop etc none of these legacy acts knew what direction to go to maintain integrity and identity while simultaneously making new and exciting music that would turn into success. I love a lot of songs on this record and it’s really fun to see how FOB interprets these pop styles while also having a few straight forward Post Hiatus FOB songs. I feel like an experimental album was needed regardless after major success from AB/AP and SR&R, two albums that within the pop rock space low key blended in with its contemporary’s despite being amazing records. Also doing that kinda of album helps a band rediscover their roots and foundation and I think this album was a necessary step to getting the great record that So Much For Stardust is.
