Issues with paperwork/registration with used car
Hi everyone. Before I get into it just want to say please be kind because I feel like an idiot as a first time used car buyer and like I made a big mistake.
I bought a used car off of Facebook marketplace back in February. The guy I bought from said he was through a dealership. I have since found that the dealership has multiple different addresses on different documents, so I’m not sure where it is exactly located or what the number would be. I tried to register it but was unable to because the car had been repossessed in the past. I was aware of this as I had the paperwork, so I did not think it would be an issue.

I messaged the guy I bought the car from to tell him. After some back and forth where he was not exactly forthcoming, I mentioned I might have to talk to my lawyer about the whole situation. I also mentioned I was interested in giving the car back since the whole situation has now lasted almost 4 months. I think I acted a bit impulsively here.
Now, the guy who sold me the car wants me to send him all the paperwork so he can go to the DMV himself and sort out the title. I need advice because I have my dad in one ear telling me this guy is a “con artist” and won’t actually help me, and then the guy I bought the car from claiming he wants to help me “in good faith”.
Is this just me being dramatic? Is the situation simpler than it seems? Please help!
