This is something I only noticed recently and it honestly changed how I look at my afternoons.
For a long time I kept hitting the same wall every day. Around mid-afternoon I’d just lose it:
- couldn’t focus
- kept switching tabs
- zero motivation
- everything felt harder than it should
So I assumed it was a discipline issue.
Like I just needed to push harder or “be more consistent”.
But then I started paying attention to when it actually happened.
Almost always after sitting for a long stretch without moving.
I tried something super basic (almost stupidly simple):
just standing up, moving around a bit, stretching for a minute or two, and taking a few slower/deeper breaths.
Nothing crazy.
But the difference was noticeable. Not like a miracle, but enough to feel “back online” again instead of forcing everything.
It made me realize something:
Maybe not every discipline problem is actually about discipline.
Sometimes your body is just in a state where focus is harder than it should be.
I’m still figuring this out, but now instead of forcing myself through that wall, I just reset for a few minutes and it helps more than trying to brute-force it.
Curious if anyone else has noticed something similar.
Do you have any small “resets” that actually work for you during long work sessions?
