gr12 student, wondering how long reading breaks are? I'm an out-of-province student and was wondering if I can visit family when possible, and how long that would be. Thanks in advance

To preface, can't decide between UBCV engineering vs Waterloo (mechanical engineering)--I'm from BC and feel more comfortable staying here due to how close I am to family, friends that also go to UBC, etc. Would love to go to UBC if specialization were guaranteed.

However, I'm torn if I should go to UWaterloo. I really want to go abroad/outside Canada for co-ops and was wondering exactly what UBC's co-op program is like, and if it is as versatile as Waterloo's, in terms of if I put in the grind, I can go abroad for co-ops as well.

I'm really scared to move across the country alone without a support system, but I'm also really tempted by their co-op so I'm just wondering how UBC's co-op compares to Waterloo's and how y'all feel going to UBC.

Thanks in advance

Just got accepted into Waterloo, but I already accepted my UBCV engineering offer last month (they never emailed me until I manually checked!!). UWaterloo is undoubtedly my dream school. I want to pursue Mechanical Engineering, with a master's focusing on automotive or aerospace in the future.

But, idk what to do because 1. I already paid the $500 UBC deposit and I'm from BC. UWaterloo's engineering program is also way more expensive than UBC's. I'm afraid I won't succeed in getting into Mech 2nd year @ UBC. But, I know Waterloo's co-ops aren't guaranteed either so that's competitive as well.

1. What is the co-op experience truly like @ UBC, esp if you're majoring in mechanical? Is it so competitive that the competitiveness is similar to UBC's 2nd year specialization competition?

2. Do any of you have any regrets about picking UBC rather than Waterloo?

My primary concerns are the financial costs and the competitiveness of co-ops. Just looking for advice 💔

On a kinda unrelated note, my dream is to work in motorsports lol, and I know UBC has plentiful grads that are working in motorsports in Formula 1 so that was kind of a driving factor for me as well.
