My contractor applied open cell foam on my bathroom walls four days ago. He also applied it around the frame of a window where he will be putting a window in. Now it has turned wet and sticky in some areas, specifically the two panels where there is a gap between the edge of the room into the next one between the drywall and exterior wall where the old insulation there is thinner and the air would likely be colder. Also, one side of the window are where he did a bad job of covering it and cold air has been coming in.
In my searching what the issue was and thinking it might have something to do with colder air I learned that open cell foam can have these issues in colder climates ( 5 and colder). I am in climate 5 and we have been having colder nights.
As a result of this, I am deeply concerned that we might have issues down the line. The contractor has been on another job so he has not seen that this has happened. I am sure the sticky wet panels need to be removed and I think it should not be around the window. I am concerned he will create drama and charge me for this though it literally had nothing to do with me. From what I understand, he didn't even need to use this.
Can anyone give me more information about this issue and any recommendation. The foam that is in my upstairs bathroom has not had this issue, but I am concerned it will when we get a cold winter and then it will be hidden behind my drywall and possibly turning into a mold issue.
