I genuinely don’t know what to do with my hair anymore and it’s starting to stress me out.

Growing up I didn’t really have anyone in my life to teach me what to do with my hair, and I’ve been straightening it pretty much every day since I was a teenager. That’s just been my default forever.

The thing is, I know my hair isn’t naturally straight. When I was little I had those cute spiral “baby curls” at the ends, but I spent most of my childhood with tight ponytails or a bob, so I never learned how to work with my natural texture.

Now I’m dealing with a few issues:

My hair will NOT grow past my shoulders

By the end of the day it flips out and does its own thing (pics included)

I recently moved from a super dry climate to a really humid one, and straightening is basically pointless now, it never holds, no matter how much spray I use

I got a haircut at Great Clips last April and they cut it into like 3 chunky sections… which I feel like you can definitely see

At this point I don’t even know what my hair type is, or if this is damage, natural texture trying to come through, or both. I just know I’m tired of spending time straightening it only to hate it a few hours later.

I’d really love to:

Figure out what my natural hair type actually is

Stop relying on heat every day

Learn how to style it in a way that actually works with humidity

Get it to grow past this awkward shoulder length

If anyone has advice on where to start (routine, products, haircut suggestions, literally anything), I would seriously appreciate it. I just want to feel okay about my hair for once instead of frustrated by it every day.
