I got assessed by an endodontist last year for tooth 2 and 3. I went in knowing I needed a root canal on both teeth, but went in for tooth 3 due to an abcess. [3 was ultimately extracted because it was cracked]
But the endodontist did look at both teeth and reported there was plaque inside the tooth under a filling and said I can get a root canal anytime.
I went in today to create a treatment plan with a new dentist. He took xrays of tooth 2 and told me he read the endodontist report and with the xray, is confident he could fix the tooth with a large filling and crown.
He told me there is a chance it doesn't take, or he gets in there and determines it does need a root canal.
I asked him what he would do if it was his own tooth and he said he would go with the filling and crown.
Financially, I will be quite strapped to do a root canal and crown, I would be forced to spread it across two years of insurance coverage. So the filling and crown is appealing.
Is this something that is common? Would you reccomend it?
Thanks for your time!
