I was given the opportunity to adopt a 4 year old female. We've had her for 4 weeks. The entire time simply trying to get her enclosure to better suit a ball python. Thanks to a lot of help from ya'll in this community, I think we're there. Last night we fed her. The previous owner was feeding her two entire adult rats every feeding at an interval of 4 to 6 weeks. When I weighed her early last week she weighed in at 1137 grams. Each of the frozen rats weighs 175 grams. So according to guide lines, she should be eating 1 full rat every 15 to 30 days.
Last night, after struggling through getting the frozen rat to proper temperature, we fed her for the first time. I WAS NOT PREPARED YA'LL! Using tongues I started moving the rat closer to Auryn, I had no idea how quickly and from what distance she could, or would, strike. Holy cow. It was amazing. I did jump a little, which my kids found hilarious. It was super cool to watch. I was surprised at how quickly she was able to swallow it and move it into her stomach. The entire process was amazing.
We won't be handling her for a few days at least.
Now here's the question, from time to time we raise chickens. Would it be ok to vary her diet some by introducing or offering her size appropriate chicks? What about eggs?
