LSAT Scoring and Applicant Cycle Update, Week of 5/11/26

Per LSAC data, we are closing in on 95% of the way through the cycle in terms of total applicant count. Here's the breakdown of Applicants so far, compared to last week and last year:

Total Applicants Last Year Current Year % Change
23 Weeks Ago 28,234 35,219 24.7%
2 Weeks Ago 68,927 75,957 10.2%
Last Week 70,662 77,532 9.7%
This Week 71,255 78,060 9.6%

Every week we seem to drop slightly, and this week was no exception. The applicant increase dropped again, this time from 9.7% to 9.6%. The numbers are very small compared to earlier in the cycle—for example, just over 500 applicants were added this week.

This steady decrease continues to support the view that this was the most front-loaded cycle in history. I’ve never seen a cycle start out so hot—up over 30% at the start, still over 20% in December, and now below 10% by May.

Let’s take a look at the LSAT scores for those applicants:

Highest LSAT Last Year Current Year % Change
< 140 2,705 2,705 0.0%
140-144 4,231 4,554 7.6%
145-149 8,170 8,530 4.4%
150-154 12,290 12,995 5.7%
155-159 12,991 13,713 5.6%
160-164 11,273 12,553 11.4%
165-169 8,493 9,721 14.5%
170-174 5,423 6,300 16.2%
175-180 2,092 2,432 16.3%
Total 67,668 73,503 8.6%

Scores were mixed, with a few bands moving down relatively and many others holding steady. Everything 170-180 increased very slightly. The changes continue to be very small, though—only 3 people added in the 175-180 range, for example.

TL;DR: We are almost 95% of the way through the cycle. Applicant increase numbers declined again, to 9.6%. Score bands were mixed but all changes were small. Data continues to suggest this is the most front-loaded cycle in history.

Going forward things will remain quiet for the next couple of months. Any questions, please let me know!

Per LSAC data, we are over 92% of the way through the cycle in terms of total applicant count. Here's the breakdown of Applicants so far, compared to last week and last year:

Total Applicants Last Year Current Year % Change
22 Weeks Ago 28,234 35,219 24.7%
2 Weeks Ago 68,502 75,527 10.3%
Last Week 68,927 75,957 10.2%
This Week 70,662 77,532 9.7%

This past week saw the release of April LSAT scores, and as expected we saw greater movement than in prior weeks. The overall applicant increase compared to last year dropped below 10% for the first time all cycle, down to 9.7%. This is good news, but it comes so late that much of the process is already locked in, especially for T50 schools.

Overall, the pattern of this cycle suggests it may be the most front-loaded in history.

Let’s take a look at the LSAT scores for those applicants:

Highest LSAT Last Year Current Year % Change
< 140 2,642 2,649 0.3%
140-144 4,122 4,468 8.4%
145-149 8,060 8,413 4.4%
150-154 12,162 12,875 5.9%
155-159 12,917 13,622 5.5%
160-164 11,229 12,510 11.4%
165-169 8,473 9,698 14.5%
170-174 5,418 6,289 16.1%
175-180 2,090 2,429 16.2%
Total 67,113 72,953 8.7%

With the April scores added, there was an increase in every score band from 150 to 180. Compared to prior weeks, the underlying numbers are larger as well. Last week, for example, only 1 score was added in the 175-180 range; this week 17 scores were added. From here on out, the score band changes will be very small. The June LSAT will see some movement, but it comes at the end of the cycle when the vast majority of decisions have been made and many of those applicants are gearing up for the following cycle.

TL;DR: We are about 92% of the way through the cycle, and the release of April scores created more movement than we have seen in weeks. Applicant increase numbers declined again, to 9.7%, but all LSAT score bands above 150 increased. This is certainly the most front-loaded cycle in recent memory, and probably in history.

Going forward things will be quiet for the next couple of months. Any questions, please let me know!

Per LSAC data, we are over 90% of the way through the cycle in terms of total applicant count. Here's the breakdown of Applicants so far, compared to last week and last year:

Total Applicants Last Year Current Year % Change
21 Weeks Ago 28,234 35,219 24.7%
3 Weeks Ago 67,355 74,443 10.5%
2 Weeks Ago 67,866 74,935 10.4%
Last Week 68,502 75,527 10.3%
This Week 68,927 75,957 10.2%

Every week we seem to drop slightly, and this week was no exception. The applicant increase dropped again, this time from 10.3% to 10.2%. The numbers are very small compared to earlier in the cycle—for example, only 430 applicants were added this week.

Let’s take a look at the LSAT scores for those applicants:

Highest LSAT Last Year Current Year % Change
< 140 2,435 2,446 0.5%
140-144 3,861 4,206 8.9%
145-149 7,708 8,095 5.0%
150-154 11,805 12,435 5.3%
155-159 12,652 13,302 5.1%
160-164 11,085 12,301 11.0%
165-169 8,422 9,584 13.8%
170-174 5,400 6,241 15.6%
175-180 2,083 2,412 15.8%
Total 65,451 71,022 8.5%

Scores were mixed, with some bands moving down relatively and others increasing. Everything 160-180 either held steady or very slightly increased. The changes continue to be very small, though—only 1 person added in the 175-180 range, for example. By next week the April LSAT results will have been released so we’ll see how that affects things.

TL;DR: We are a bit over 90% of the way through the cycle. Applicant increase numbers again moved downward slightly, although LSAT scores of 160 and up mostly stayed level or increased very slightly. The numbers are very small at this point, though.

Any questions, please let me know!
