Bonnet catch cable detached/snapped on 7th gen
Just recently bought a 2005 gen 7 GT and need to open the bonnet. I pulled the latch but the cable was loose and pulling on the cable leads to loose cable coming out from under the steering wheel. I was able to open the bonnet fine the day before so I am guessing the cable has somehow detached from the catch.
I had a breakdown guy come round and he couldn't open it after trying going underneath, using airbags wedged between the bonnet and bumper and removing some of the bumper. He tried fiddling with a screwdriver and then with my permission hammering said screwdriver to break the catch. He said the catch is on backwards to normal (not sure if this is a feature of these Celicas?) and he wasn't able to make a dent hammering it.
Has anyone else had a problem with this? I think the low profile front of the car doesn't help trying to get access to the catch. Is there some kind of tool I could fashion or is it possible to somehow get to the cable through the wheel arch? Will probably end up taking it to a garage but it would be nice to know if someone else has solved this problem without cutting into the bonnet.
