I sent a letter to my district senator Camilleri regarding this bill to ban kratom.

He responded with a lot of information, but the most noted was that the bill is now in the hands of the Senate Committee on Government Operations which he is not a member.

I looked up contact information for this committee and the Chairperson is Senator Winnie Brinks. Her email is SenWBrinks@senate.michigan.gov.

So it might be a good idea to send her a letter with your story of how kratom has helped you and to encourage regulation instead of an outright ban.

The Michigan House of Representatives recently passed HB 5537, a bill that would enact a blanket ban on kratom. This was an unfortunate outcome as the House had already unanimously advanced a regulatory bill out of committee.

The ban bill is now heading to the Senate and, if passed, thousands of law-abiding Michiganders who rely on natural kratom will become criminals overnight.

We must urge the Senate to reject the blanket ban in HB 5537 and instead support commonsense, science-led regulation.
