What am I missing?

Visited Nashville this weekend for a wedding, and I don't understand the real estate market. This is my 3rd time visiting in the last 5 years, and while I get that Nashville has a lot going for it for certain career fields, I'm at a loss when a small home in East Nashville is $1.25 million.

And I'm from Chicago, and before that, I was in New York. So, I am not immune to high prices.

There is clearly a lot of demand, but geez, I feel out of touch whenever I visit Nashville.

When people discuss moving to the Western Suburbs, the usual suspects are uniformly mentioned. Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Western Springs, La Grange, Brookfield, etc., are common responses.

I rarely see Westmont. Now, I do not live in Westmont, but as far as bang for your buck, it is an absolute steal.

* Cute little downtown with a healthy mix of bars, restaurants, live music, services, and shops.

* Incredibly affordable compared to its neighbors of Clarendon Hills, Oak Brook, and Hinsdale.

* Good school system that offers a more intimate setting compared to its larger brethren.

* Great access to highways, airports, and town is laid out logically in a grid system.

* Less pretentious than other neighboring towns.

* Has a small-town feel, unlike Lombard, Downers Grove, Lisle, and Naperville.

* Microcenter
