Currently my family is using a modem/router combo and I’m looking to upgrade and buy them separately. I’m trying to get a strong enough WiFi signal in my room so I can use my switch 2 in it.
Our current internet plan is 1100/35 and our house is 2400sqft. I’ve been looking at the Netgear CM3000, I see some good things about Netgear and some complaints so I’m not sure about it. As for the router I’ve seen a lot of people recommend Unifi dream routers unfortunately they’re a bit out of my budget (was looking to spend $250-400 in total for a router and modem). I’ve seen recommendations for Gl.iNet routers but from what I understand those might lose support at a certain point do to the FCC (if I’m wrong about that please correct me) and Asus seems to be a hit or a miss.
For a little more context I can only put the router and modem in the living room which is on one side of the house, I use a moca adapter to get an internet connection on my computer which is in my room upstairs on the other side of the house. I’m thinking I could use the moca adapters to set up an access point in my room as well? I don’t think I need a mesh system at all since that would cover the only area in the house that would get a weak signal. Am I on the right track with that idea.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
