Hi all,

Need some advice as most of you seem to be going thru the same issue nowadays.

Landlord sent notice 90 days before rent was up. Checked the DLD rental index showed that I was already overpaying and not entitled to any increases in rent. Informed the real estate department that is running things for the landlord (I think they might be the issue), that they are not entitled to this increase emailed them right away. Spoke to a trustee and they helped me file an offer and deposit and charged me AED 350. Did everything okay, got the go ahead from RDC Judge to go ahead and handover the checks to Tableegh. Did that 10 days before contract expired, the checks were taken by tableegh to the real estate office where we do the signing of contract and handover. They rejected on April 23rd and now my checks are with tableegh for 30 days. Spoke to trustee, he said let your contract expires, get checks back and file against the landlord which will cost I think around 2% of rent. But It’s unsettling because the contract is under my wife since she got the lease before we got married last April and I don’t want her to get in trouble, knowing that our contract is expired and I can’t do anything till I get my checks back which will probably be after Eid break. Just require some clarification as the trustee seems too chill about the situation and I can’t find any solid advice online.

  1. What do you think will be the real estate company’s, next move? I went a few days back and spoke to a representative and he was least bothered said he will check with legal, went again he was acting so lost and just said rejected.
  2. My wife and I are looking to travel during eid break, will she get stopped at the airport while taking off or arriving back if landlord gives eviction notice or if we or the landlord files a case.
  3. Can the landlord still collect the checks from tableegh?
  4. Any additional advice?
