I have the option to own this 1997 Ford Ranger, its the 2.3L with 198k. It does not run, as the timing belt is broken. It has a new fuel pump, fuel neck, and battery. Engine turns over great (no start obv), trans fluid is nice and red. Tires look shot. Its been sitting a while with an open rear window. Frame has a little rust but is solid.

I dont know whay something like this is worth. The owner is wanting to trade it to me in exchange for a discount on other mechanical work (I am mechanic).

What's this worth? Am I better off looking for something in better condition for the money (roughly 800-1200)?

While rebuilding my gauge cluster, I noticed that my 1996 has a unused slot for an anti theft light. No circuit traces for lights, but the hole is drilled with ears for a light. You could in theory have an anti theft light to work with a security systems.

Thought it was cool, never seen this before. Interesting how this would never be used, as they added the security light to the dash by the daylight sensor in later years.
