I recently had a new roof installed on a small older house in Denver.

The ridge vent appears to run nearly the full length of the roof, but the lower intake vents do not run the same distance and don’t appear to cover every rafter bay. I’m trying to understand whether that’s normal/acceptable, or whether the intake side may be undersized.

A few questions for the roofing pros:

  1. Does the lower intake vent need to correspond to EVERY rafter bay, or is total net free area the main thing?
  2. Is it okay for the ridge vent to run much farther than the intake vent?
  3. Should I ask the roofer for the intake/exhaust NFA calculation?
  4. If the intake is undersized, what problems would that cause?

Not trying to accuse the installer of anything- just want to understand whether this setup is normal.

Thanks for any feedback.
