Hi everyone,

I’ve been running for 2 months now. Started at 105kg (231lbs) and I’m down to 95kg (209lbs). Up until yesterday, I was running in a pair of 5-year-old Nike Pegasus. The foam was completely dead—I felt like I was running basically barefoot on the pavement.
I finally decided to upgrade. Went to a local running store for a professional fitting, and they recommended the Asics Nimbus 27 and the Nike Vomero Plus. I went with the Vomeros.
I just got back from my first run in them and I feel like a total beginner again. Everything hurts: my heels, calves, and shins. With my old shoes, I had zero pain, even though they were falling apart.

My questions for the community:

  1. Do high-cushion shoes like the Vomero Plus have a break-in period?
  2. Is it possible that because I finally have proper support, I’m actually engaging muscles that were "dormant" before, and now they are just adjusting?
  3. Or could it be that I’ve made a mistake with the choice of shoe despite the fitting?
Has anyone else experienced more pain after switching to better gear?

Thanks in advance for the help!
