I've recently been getting back into Yugioh via Master Duel, and my favorite (and only decent) deck is an amalgamation of the Endymion and Mythical Beast archetypes for Spell Counter combo plays, with some Spellbook spell support mixed in.
One of the cards that I was interested in testing out is the Spellbook Star Hall - it can generate Spell Counters, buffs their slightly-below-average Atk, and can [theoretically] cheat something out from deck to hand "When this card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard."
...the last part is the part that gives me trouble, though. Half the time, when the card is destroyed, I'll get a notification saying that I couldn't activate Spellbook Star Hall (I'd post the exact message, but apparently the phrase within it gets your post deleted on this subreddit >_>), which confuses me because its activation condition WAS met.
For example, it activates if I destroy it with my own Beyond the Pendulum or Mythical Beast Garuda (Scale effect), but not when it's destroyed by Endymion the Mighty Master of Magic (Scale effect), or (more annoyingly) Kewl Tune Reco when it's in a chain...
Could someone explain to me how this card actually works? Timing is still confusing to me.
