It’s gotten so bad in terms of response time and membership. At this point Nassau itself needs to become one big paid department with a volunteer option. Consolidate the vehicles/sell them for departmental funds. Divide it into east/west/south/north Nassau like how FDNY has dispatch for brooklyn/queens/manhattan/bronx/SI yes this would take time, money and planning but it’s literally a matter of time before someone dies because the lack of membership and terrible response times to a fire scene. Or not even the whole Nassau just a couple of departments absorb into one. Engines and trucks pulling up to scenes with 2-3 people because people have to work a lot more in this economy. I know this idea is a HUGE stretch but something needs to change
