Hi team, I’m planning to rescape my established tank using 2 Hour Aquarist feast aquasoil, but I currently have pea puffers in the tan.
My current setup:
Established tank with pea puffers 70 litres -6 puffers
Sponge filter that has been running ~1 year
Second filter also running ~1 year (so strong biological filtration)
I have Pre-soaked aquasoil in a bucket with daily 100% water changes for ~5–7 days
I’m going to Move pea puffers temporarily into a heated, aerated bucket with old tank water
Set up tank with aquasoil + filters + plants and run it for 24 hours
Test ammonia and nitrite before putting fish back in
My concern:
Even with mature filters, I know aquasoil can still cause an ammonia spike or mini-cycle over the first few days. I’m trying to figure out if my approach is safe enough for sensitive fish like pea puffers, or if I’m still at high risk of a spike after reintroducing them.
Main question:
Is this a safe enough method, or is hthere a better way to introduce active aquasoil without risking ammonia/nitrite issues with fish already in the system?
