Hey I was wondering if anybody had recently traveled on WestJet using bereavement travel.
We recently found out my step mom has cancer. Things took a downward turn and we decided to book my sister to fly in tomorrow. ( also if everyone could say a little prayer for us because she has to fly into Halifax with the upcoming windstorm) Today we were told moms cancer is worse then we thought, not only is it inoperable, treatment isn't an option. We have now been told the best we can hope is a few months.
My sister has 2 kids and a partner (unmarried but have been together for 12 years) who will now also need to get home.
I've looked online but can't find any information on if her partner will be able to also qualify for bereavement or just the kids.
Also I seen something about no longer than 60 days and the wording seemed a bit ambiguous. Does anyone know if thats 60 days to submit doctors records or 60 days from flight to flight.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to anyone who replied with your kind words and advice. Unfortunately due to WestJet not flying into Deer Lake until later in the year, WestJet was unable to help us, but they did exhaust their efforts before giving up. In the end they actually walked us through all the documentation we would likely require and pointed Us in the direction of their competitor.
We have booked everything now and we will be together again next Wednesday, pending any further complications.
For anyone who may be going through a similar crisis I found out the following, common-law is eligible, the 60 days is 60 days from the time you return home until you produce a certificate verifying you're eligibility.
