Edit: I was going around 10mph and came to a halt just before the passing place on his left to let him pull in, same as I'd do if it was a car. This is where the confrontation happened. Thanks for all the replies, I usually wouldn't question myself in a situation like this, but he seemed like he was ready to throw fists by the end of it so I did doubt myself. Couldn't find anything addressing this exact scenario online so made this post.

P.S Not trying to make an anti cyclist post, I'm also a cyclist myself and have had plenty of awful experiences with car drivers so can imagine why he'd he was in the mindset he was in, cheers.

Hey all, quick question about driving/cycling in the UK. Had this situation this morning driving a van with no reversing camera.

If both a van and a cyclist have committed to a road going round a corner with no room to pass each other (due to parked cars) and no view of the other when committing, should the cyclist go into the passing spot or should the van reverse?

This happened to me this morning while driving the van, and the cyclist got into a rage with the classic "cyclists always have priority" when I asked if he could just pull into the passing spot so I could get out of his way.

I always try to give way and am mindful of cyclists, but in these sorts of situations, does cyclist priority apply, and should I have reversed without view of what was behind me?

I've always been under the impression that road users should cooperate and use the passing spot if it's on their side in these situations. This was also in a school zone around 0830 so I didn't want to reverse for obvious reasons. Just asking to see if I'm incorrect and to avoid these sorts of issues in the future, as the cyclist refused to move and got extremely irate (this was in London, so business as usual I guess haha)

Have added a badly drawn graphic for reference

Please do tell me if I'm in the wrong!
