Patience was rewarded when I headed out to see the Shrike on a recent trip to Tenerife. Spotting one was the initial aim but I knew coming away with a serviceable shot, ideally on a cactus, was the cherry on top. After nearly leaving the area a few times but always deciding on "one more loop", I was rewarded with a few minutes at eye level with this incredible bird. A real Joy.

Great Grey Shrike was the crown jewel of the trip and the top target of what turned into a long day out. Patience paid off and I was treated to a solid 5 minutes observing this amazing 'butcher bird'.
