Moving abroad (US to Ireland) within a year or two. Sounds like theres really no way around having to get the birds some form of permanent ID, but all of the options don't sound great.
The three options I can find are: microchip, leg ring, detailed feather documentation
They are both bonded, 4~ years old, rescues. male Cockatiel and a female Fischer's lovebird.
Cockatiel I'm thinking can with proper planning, be microchipped. Lovebird is way too small for that to be done safetly from what I can tell, and I expect the out of pocket to find anyone specialized enough to attempt that without tragedy occuring isn't feesible.
Neither have ever had a legring. When they were surrendered to the rescue I adopted them from at around 2years old, their wings were clipped. Both have been fully flighted now for about 1.5 years.
Currently I'm leaning microchip for the tiel, leg band for the lovie? I'd feel real bad though about a leg band being put on a bird that's lived without one her whole life! Inputs or thoughts?? I have lots of feathers from them both stored up, but I'm not sure how to go about that feather indexing, or if theres even enough consistency or whatnot to even consider that option.
Gotta get through US export, Irish imports, and for the lovie CITES stuff for appendix II species. So a lot of places would have to approve the feather stuff. I'm no feather expert either, thoughts???
Peeps (lovebird) really REALLY enjoyed shredding toys, but while she hasn’t ever really gotten into chewing up dangerous things, I’m worried if she starts going at rope/thread, it’ll become one of her favs.
I got a lot of toys like these where all the easily shredded bits are gone, leaving this sisal rope and wood behind….. Is this safe for her to shred? She never swallows or eats the stuff she shreds, there just ends up a huge pile of finely minced up cardboard and paper and whatnot under her favorite perches lol. Still!! Stuff can be accidently digested sooooooll, thoughts? Should I avoid leaving these entirely wood & sisal rope stuff inside the cage with her?
In simple words, is sisal rope safe for shredding?
She and her cagemate (Beau, cockatiel) both enjoy just bumping things around like this almost like those bead walls people have lol, so I’d have a use for it, I just wanna be sure if she nibbles on it it’s safe. Thanks!
It’s struck me how many rewritten and contradictory afterlives/fates are in canon forgotten realms stuff. Outside of exceptions where something else controls the direction of a soul for some other purpose, what are the “default(s)” for the journey a soul of most people go about after they die? For simplicity Im assuming humanoids from/on the prime, but feel free to let me know if it changes based on plane, species, power, etc.
Off the top of my head there’s the astral plane all souls travel through, but also the Raven Queen’s domain they all pass through as well? Not to mention all the various afterlife realms of various flavors.
I figure the astral plane is the sort of planar highway for conveying souls to the afterlives, but is there a default for what happens to souls with only exceptions being pulled aside to certain afterlives, or is it a case by case basis where each soul is individually placed in a specific afterlife?
also what’s up with the Raven Queen’s supposed “all the dead travel through my domain” shtick? correct me if i’m wrong and just misremembering that though. I know she’s intended to be inscrutable and impossible to know her goals and motives, but the claim all dead are witnessed by her feels a bit too grandiose to be a prominent belief without SOMETHING to back it up.
This is the best picture I got of it before it flew away. Spotted in Indianapolis, maybe the size of a goose or slightly smaller. Pale yellow on belly, face, gray wings. When it turned in profile I saw that it had a looong pointy beak. Unfortunately I only saw it for a few moments. This is a tree I sit under during my work breaks, at the shoreline of a man made pond that is frequented by mallards and Canada geese.
