Special Containment Procedures: During SCP-9XXX's active phase, the airspace surrounding SCP-9XXX is to be closed and an aircraft fitted with high powered lights escorted by an MTF fighter is to lead SCP-9XXX along a predetermined route away from populated areas. Every three hours or when SCP-9XXX stops following the aircraft, the pilot is to power down their lights and reposition the aircraft to a different direction before turning the lights back on to regain SCP-9XXX's attention.
Should these methods of containment fail as they did on 21/1/2016, all population centers within a 30 mile radius are to have their power cut, with civilians being advised to stay indoors while a MTF is called and further containment method are attempted.
Description: SCP-9XXX is a massive entity, estimated to be nearly 200 meters in height, located in the southern Appalachian region in the United States. SCP-9XXX's body plan is vaguely humanoid, possessing four prehensile appendages, attached to a torso with a rounded head devoid of any facial features, except a pair of reflective eyes. SCP-9XXX does not to be aggressive with damage it has caused to residential areas occurring due to it's sheer size.
SCP-9XXX exhibits predictable behavior and does not seem to have any form of higher intelligence, during it's inactive phase SCP-9XXX will bury itself into a patch of land it deems suitable, and will lie dormant until its active phase. During nights with a full or gibbous moon, SCP-9XXX enters it's active phase. Throughout it's active phase SCP-9XXX will usually wander towards the brightest source of light it can see, with the exception of the Moon. This may be due to an evolutionary adaptation to hunt prey or out of curiosity.
It is unknown what SCP-9XXX eats of if it eats at all, as it has never been seen consuming anything. Theories have been posed by research teams that SCP-9XXX may be photosynthetic, gathering nutrients from the ground during it's inactive phase and using the light of the moon to trigger the necessary chemical reactions to sustain itself, although this has not been confirmed.
Addendum 1:
On 21/1/16 SCP-9XXX lost interest in the aircraft containing it and began moving south, with auxiliary measures failing, it continued for 2 hours until reaching the town of █████, 52% of the town was destroyed causing 68 casualties.
Addendum 2:
On 10/5/18 Reports of a second instance of a creature resembling SCP-9XXX in the Naryn Region of Kyrgyzstan was brought to the attention of foundation staff. The second instance deemed SCP-9XXX-2 was confirmed on 28/5/18 with the same containment procedures being imposed as SCP-9XXX-1 and foundation staff being assigned to search for further instances.
Addendum 3:
Over the next three years from 2019 to 2021, 5 additional instances were located across Asia, Africa and the Americas bringing the total to 7 instances. Object reclassified as Keter.
Addendum 4:
As of 10/2/24, 15 total instances of SCP-9XXX have been confirmed worldwide, researchers have raised concerns that SCP-9XXX may be an expansive subterranean species with the potential to cause an SK-class dominance shift scenario should enough appear.

As of 9/8/25, 17 total instances of SCP-9XXX have been confirmed, foundation officials are weighing whether or not to terminate redundant instances.
