Now that so many people have had huge successes with NSM sub-threshold training, does anybody else feel like a large majority of the elites are overtraining? So often the pros are injured or race poorly. When I see from their Strava or YouTube channels how they are doing speed work, very high mileage, lifting, altitude, sauna, huge long run workouts with continuous tempos, hill reps, ect… I’m not surprised they feel flat or have niggles. I realize they are elites for a reason, but I doubt they are absorbing all that training load properly.
My other thought, often elites don’t pace their races well because they are being competitive and covering moves. They run somebody else’s race early on instead of to their own fitness. I wonder if they paced according to the book and factoring weather and conditions , how much better they would fair. Maybe they pass a lot of people in the final stretch if they were more patient.
