Final year engineering student from a tier-3 college got admission to the MSCS program at University of California, Irvine. I have around 7 months of SDE internship experience and I’m confused whether I should accept the offer or stay in India and do a job for 2 years first.
Final-year Computer Engineering student working deeply in AI/ML (LLMs, RAG, full-stack) with hands-on experience building and shipping real-world systems using FastAPI, React, and Node; I’ve won a hackathon and have 2 research papers published, along with strong fundamentals in DSA and system design. I’m currently looking for WFH roles or opportunities with companies based in Pune only.
Reach out if any openings thanks.
I’ve done a 7-month Software Engineering internship, have strong backend + AI/ML experience, published a couple of papers, and also have a pretty solid resume (got it reviewed multiple times). I’ve also won a few hackathons. Still, I’m barely getting shortlisted. And when I do, it’s mostly QA or roles I’m not targeting.
I’m specifically looking for SDE or AI/ML roles and actively applying off-campus since campus placements aren’t great here. Not sure what I’m missing at this point.
If anyone has any openings at their company, I’d be really grateful if you could lmk

I’ve done a 7-month software engineering internship, worked a lot on backend + some solid AI/ML projects, and even won a few hackathons, published papers and have a really good resume. So I don’t think my profile is that bad. But the problem is I’m barely getting shortlisted. And when I do, it’s mostly for QA or roles I’m not really interested in. I’m mainly aiming for SDE or AI/ML roles, and I’m applying online since campus placements aren’t great here. Not sure what I’m doing wrong at this point. If anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice on how to actually get shortlisted (resume, referrals, anything), would really appreciate it.
