Does networking actually land permanent jobs?

People who landed a full time, permanent role within the past 2 years through “networking” - how? What did that look like?

Did you know a friend of family member who worked at the company?

Did you attend a career expo?

Did you slide into someone’s DM’s on LinkedIn?

Bonus if you landed a role that earns $100k+ because apparently that’s the “average” full time wage although I don’t believe it

Having to disclose HR issues a problem in job applications?

Does it actually disadvantage you as an applicant?

Is it actually an issue when applying for any role in any sector, if you’ve been on a management plan or anything like that?

Even if you actually did nothing wrong and were targeted by HR/your boss/someone trying to get a raise by putting you through this sort of process unnecessarily?

Intelligence roles?

It’s all very hush hush. People who have actually landed a role - how did you do it?! What was your pathway.

More specifically: I know most are in Canberra, but I actually want o hear from anyone in QLD specifically.

There are no communities where you can actually find out about this stuff because everything is secret and anonymous.

Does an advocate recruiter exist?

My question is: Do recruiters who advocate for you UNTIL you actually land a job exist??

And, not just people who work with general professions such as admin. I mean the niche roles, too. (If so, names please.)

I know there are so many recruiters out there, but they will take hundreds of people on their books and you never hear from them even when you follow up multiple times.

Ex-police - what role did you go into?

Anyone who used to serve in state police and moved into a full time, permanent role elsewhere:

- what role do you have now, and

- what do you think helped you land the job offer in terms of CV, cover letter, networking, etc.?

Successful candidates & recruiters: Who is actually landing jobs?

TL;DR - Can candidates who have actually landed a full time, permanent job in the past 12 months in Aus please share anything that might be helpful. Can recruiters also please share why exactly they chose someone for the role?

Long version:

I know 2 people struggling to get a job, both with uni degrees, both with lots of experience serving this country as a police officer and in the military, both spending hours tailoring applications, and trying to network, and still not being successful.

The entire system needs an overhaul.

I spent 6 months unemployed, applying for 3 jobs per week - it WAS my full time job - and I count my lucky stars I finally have one.

But:

- So many hours invested into tailoring cover letters, creating a clear, well-structured resume also tailored to the company I was applying for.

- hours rephrasing and specifying language based on key words etc.

- reaching out to people on LinkedIn with similar roles or in companies that I wanted to work for.

- so many rejection emails with no reason provided to why I didn’t get the role.

- so many hours researching how I could improve my CV & cover letters.

- so many applications with NO response whatsoever - this has actually been made illegal in Canada and I’m all for it.

- Additional study and paying for it to add something, anything, to my quals to make me stand out.

- the government was more than happy to take my tax when I worked, but didn’t give me a cent to help me out when I was unemployed.

What the heck is going on?

Has anyone else come across this? No power outlets in the bathroom. And the only mirror in the whole house is in the bathroom.

I know this is a first world problem, but with how expensive rent is, it’s having these little things that help ease the stress of the world.

Which subreddit can I post this in?

TL/DR: This is half a rant about organisations forcing you to give your data as a consumer, and half a question of what can I actually do about protecting my number?

Long story for context:

Me&U forced me to use my phone number just to order a pizza the other day. I didn’t want to use my number, but there was no other option to even use an email. I was going to give a fake one, but they made me verify it via a code. Just to order the freaking pizza in the actual restaurant!!!

I hated this as it felt like a huge breach of privacy. To add a cherry on top, I wanted to call the company to put in a complaint - they don’t even have a phone number!!!!! The audacity.

I am trying to remember a 2D animated film I watched when I was in about grade 3 (2000). It is possible it was created anywhere from the late 80s until about 2004 though (trying to add a buffer in case I remember incorrectly).

Key details:

- Most likely not Disney

- some villain locks some princess/female protagonist in a cage on wheels.

- There is some sort of prince/male protagonist.

- One protagonist drinks a potion to “save” the other

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Movies I 100% know it IS NOT:

- The Princess and the Goblin

- The Swan Princess (first movie)

- Anastasia

Looking for probably a magic product that doesn’t exist, but I’ll have a go at asking anyway. My hair is very fine and dead straight. I would love a product that not only volumises my hair but also adds curls without heat.

Has anyone found any products that actually work and have this effect?

Alternatively, one product that volumises fine hair really well, and another
