WIBTAH for calling out a premed for using deceptive tactics for medical school admissions?
I recently stumbled across my 22-year-old relative’s TikTok, where she has posted several videos crafting a narrative of extreme hardship and playing victim in order to increase her chances of getting into medical school. She claims her mother's refugee status and paints a picture of struggling premed, but the reality is the polar opposite.
Her mother actually immigrated on a spouse visa and earned a university degree. Furthermore, her father is a successful physician who provided a life of luxury for both of them. This "financial struggle" only began recently when she voluntarily chose to cut him off since her parents divorce. Essentially, she is framing a personal choice for independence as a lifelong battle against systemic barriers. This behavior is a profound disservice to those who are actually struggling and have a genuine hard time in life, as it occupies spaces and dilutes narratives meant for individuals who have climbed genuine mountains without a safety net. In a field like medicine, where integrity is the most critical asset, choosing to treat hardship as a marketable costume not only risks her future through application fraud but also insults the resilience of those who have survived true systemic barriers.
I decided to call her out publicly. I posted a video response and left the following comment on her post (tagging her in the process):

She immediately blocked me. Now I’m wondering if I crossed a line by taking family business into a public forum.
So, Reddit... WIBTAH for calling her out?
