My landlord called the police and is calling me a boarder. They want to kick my mum out. I talked to the police on the phone and they said that they will come kick my mum out since my landlord now lives there. My landlord has lived here for only 2 weeks of my 2 year lease.

Guest Policy Ontario

Question/Tenant need advice on a tricky housing situation involving a landlord moving in after a lease was signed under RTA. The landlord was not living here until 7 months into my lease. When signed my lease, my landlord did not live in the house and there were no restrictions on guests in the lease. Since then, the landlord has moved into the home and now shares the kitchen and bathroom with tenants. Recently, I was told that I am not allowed to have my mom stay with me temporarily (about 3 weeks) to support me during health treatments, and that she would need to rent a separate room. However, other tenants in the house regularly have overnight guests, including partners and family members, and some have stayed for extended periods. have also raised multiple concerns about ongoing smoking near the apartment, which has been affecting my health, but I was told nothing can be done. I have documentation of this.

I need advice on a tricky housing situation involving a landlord moving in after a lease was signed under RTA. The landlord was not living here until 7 months into my lease.

When I signed my lease, my landlord did not live in the house and there were no restrictions on guests in the lease.

I have also raised multiple concerns about ongoing smoking near the apartment, which has been affecting my health, but I was told nothing can be done. I have documentation of this.

My questions are:

  1. Does the Residential Tenancies Act still apply if the landlord moves in after the lease starts?

  2. Can a landlord introduce new rules like banning guests if they were not in the original lease?

  3. Is it legal to enforce rules inconsistently between tenants?

I am not looking to escalate things legally right now, but I want to understand my rights and options before deciding next steps.

Any insight would be really appreciated.

Hello,

My ring camera footage keeps deleting and although it is on someone I live with turns it off remotely and stops it from recording. Attempting to reconnect it doesn't work unless I unplug it from the power source. What do you think is happening. A basic engineer is doing this. How can I protect myself. My food keeps getting stolen and spat on.
