Hello everyone,
I’m heading into my final semester for my AAS in Electronics tech, and I’m trying to figure out the best strategy to land my first BMET I role. Ultimately, my long term goal is to specialize as an Imaging Specialist (CRES), but I want to make sure my first steps are the right ones.
Before going back to school for electronics, I worked as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) in an office for about a year and a half. The program had me learning about anatomy and physiology, terminology, HIPPA/OSHA, etc.
I was hoping for advice on a few things:
- CABT: Is it worth taking the CABT before I graduate to boost my resume? I get the feeling this cert is mainly for people with zero medical background. Does my prior CCMA experience already cover what employers are looking for in that regard?
- CBET: AAMI allows graduates to test for the CBET and get "Candidate" status until the two year experience requirement is met. Should I skip the CABT entirely and just focus my energy here?
- CBET Difficulty: My main worry about testing for the CBET right out of school is the lack of hands-on BMET experience. I thought the CBET exam assumed that you have previous work experience and tested you on that. But if I take the exam as a candidate, how would I expect to pass without that work experience?
What do you guys think?
