I know everyone here naturally will think they’re the best driver. Me and my friends were talking about this. I’m generally interested for any random driving habits you do or others do, that you think makes you (or others ) a good driver. That make things safer or you feel helps others. Not obvious things , or legal vs non legal. Small things.

For example..

• In fairness, this is quite commonly said, but leaving a safe stopping distance to point I barely have to touch the brake pedals. And if I do, it is always gentle. It generally does baffle me that it is quite often , whether on country roads or motorway, drivers seem to drive reactively to car in front, and you see abrupt, constant tapping of brake lights. I am actually quite an assertive driver (of course, I alsolike to think I’m safe) . Still, when the situation allows (which is majority of time ) I find this is how I drive.

• Accelerating quickly from lights. Maybe this is controversial but if coast is clear I do like to make quick progress. It makes sense from a flow point of view, to get to speed quickly. But again, obviously in context of your environment - not in a congested street or in front a school etc

• If there is an obstruction (bike, parked car, even in urban roads etc) I will always pull myself to the left to give bit of space extra, even if there is no car oncoming. It is actually something my driving instructor taught me. It sounds obvious but I do notice the majority of drivers don’t do this, occasional close calls particularly those driving larger cars.

• Not braking before corners , or even speed bumps, if going at a suitable speed. I do notice a lot of drivers habitually, unnecessarily brake in these situations despite going at a more than suitable speed. If I do see this I air on the side of caution, for car ahead, as I (maybe wrongly) assume a nervous driver.

Any others?
