Anyone lose stamina really fast when you take a break or stop and get back into it?
I (50m) am trying to get back into running after a 2 year break. I had a lot of life events (mostly good but stressful) in the last two years. In just those years I had a baby, dropped my oldest off at college, got a new job I love but it’s a 3 hour commute, I’m moving next month due to said commute, and my family of 5 is moving in with my folks for 6 weeks while our new house is situated.
A little background I have never been a fast runner, just love doing it. I’m happy with a 27 5k and thrilled if I break an hour on 10k.
Two years ago I could do that. Today’s 5k was 35 minutes with plenty of walking. I couldn’t even make it a mile! 5 years ago I did a marathon for crying out loud!
Does anyone else lose stamina real fast? Even when I’m in shape if I take a week off I lose a lot. It’s a little discouraging. Maybe I just needed to vent!
