Paid off medical collections but my score still looks bad. Will this hurt my mortgage?
I had some medical bills go to collections about two years ago when I lost my job. I finally paid them off last month. It felt good to get that behind me.
But my credit score on my banking app is still stuck around 670. A friend told me that mortgage lenders might see my score differently than my app does. He said something about newer credit models treating medical debt better.
I am hoping to buy a home in Richmond within the next six months. I have a stable job now and money saved for a down payment. But I am worried that old medical debt will ruin my chances of getting a good rate.
Does paying off medical collections help? Or am I stuck with that lower score for years? Should I wait longer before applying for a mortgage?
