Bleeding after mva

Hi 30F. I had an mva at 6 weeks 1d. However, i only experienced bleeding after the procedure for like 12 hours, it was very light. Now after that i have those bum cramps that come and go and very very light spotting (light brown). I have no other symptoms and its now 48hrs post procedure, is this normal

My MVA procedure with no sedation or numbing 6w1d

I wanted to share my MVA experience because reading other people’s posts really helped calm me down before mine. Hopefully this helps someone else too.

  1. Leading up to finding out

I’ve always had a very regular period, so when I missed mine by about 2 days I already suspected I was pregnant. I usually use the safe days method, but that month I was a bit careless

My boyfriend and I had only been together for less than a month we literally met the 2nd day of my last period.

I found out at around 4 weeks.

  1. When I found out

My boyfriend was very supportive. He immediately came over when I tested and at first he had already accepted that we would keep it. A few days later we sat down properly and talked things through. We realised that financially and with our current commitments, it wasn’t the right time.

  1. Going to Marie Stopes (6w1d)

I went to my local Marie Stopes clinic and the ladies there were genuinely very kind and professional. They really walked me through everything step by step and helped calm my nerves.

Unfortunately there was no sedation or numbing 😅 so about 1 hour 30 minutes before the procedure they gave me a diclofenac injection and pills to help dilate my cervix.

During the waiting time, there was a lady who stayed with me, talking to me and calming me down, just general conversation to distract me God bless her, she was really kind.

  1. During the procedure

After reading so much online about MVA, I was extremely nervous.

When I lay on the table, my cervix unfortunately had not fully dilated so they had to use tools to help with that.

During the procedure, the same lady kept talking to me, calming me down and just chatting generally which helped a lot.

The pain felt like an intense period cramp — I’d say about 7.5/10 at its peak but manageable. If you have had a decidual cast come out during your period that is exactly the pain when they are using a suction/vacuum

The whole thing lasted around 20 minutes from when I went in, but the actual procedure itself was maybe 5 minutes.

  1. After the procedure

I had light bleeding afterwards. and the bleeding lasted 12 hours now and I’ve changed pads 3 times during those 12hrs:

First time after about an hour (I wanted to shower, but it wasn’t full)

Second time after about 8 hours (still not heavy)

  1. Cramping / recovery

I had mild cramping but it has mostly settled now... close to 24hrs no cramps, just spotting
