Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out to connect with other contractors working in the custom home and cottage niche. We specialize in high-end new builds in cottage country, and we’ve recently expanded our services to include security, audio, automated shades, and motorized screen doors alongside our electrical work.
I’m curious how some of you handle a few specific scenarios:
- Wood Ceilings vs. Drywall: For standard pot light rough-ins, we use backplates and have the drywallers cut the holes. However, with the rise of wood ceilings, we’ve noticed the labor time on our end has increased significantly. For those in this space, do you build in a surcharge for wood ceilings, or do you require the finishing carpenter to handle the cutouts?
- TV Rough-ins: We currently use recessed boxes at 5' with a conduit drop to a pass-through plate at standard height for cabinet connectivity. Is this still the go-to standard, or are you guys using a different configuration?
We’re focused on cornering the premium market here, so I’d love to hear any "tips of the trade" for maintaining efficiency in a high-end environment.
Thanks in advance for the insight!
