My (30's F) husband and I (30's M) own our two-story condo. Because of the design of our complex, a lot of the other units are rented out. Since 2020 we've noticed a remarkable decline in the...quality of neighbors. I'd say from 2020-2023 it was fairly quiet and pleasant, but now the families and kids that are here are causing an absolute riot. The ages range from maybe 8 to mid-teens and they roll around on their e-bikes and e-scooters (there is absolutely no earthly reason anyone under the age of 18 needs an e-bike or e-scooter...or anything with wheels that is propelled by anything other than their own damned feet) wrecking the grass, running in front of cars, climbing on AC units, playing in the trees right outside my windows, loitering outside of my front door all the while screaming, pelting each other with pop-guns, playing with lighters and matches, hiding knives in downspouts, etc. It is in-F'ing-sane. And the units they live in? Reeks of weed as you walk by. The parents cannot be assed to do a damned thing.
What was the solution on the HOA's end? Post signs, with classics such as, "children must be supervised at all times; tell your children to stop running in the parking lot; tell your children to stop feeding the alligators; tell your children to stop approaching alligators; etc" AND install parking lot speed bumps (which certainly doesn't stop the kids from pretending they will be able to fly when they launch themselves and their said electric wheels over them).
One of the families is a single mom with a tween and teen boy, and we share a wall. When I tell you the headaches I get from the stomping up the stairs, the slamming the front doors, I can't freaking STAND it. I texted her once about it (kindly, like, "hey, Name, the stomping and slamming is a little much..." and she left me on read (she usually responds to whatever I send her).
I really, really wish there were childfree living communities that value peace and quiet.
ETA: there isn't a park or play structure in our complex, but a 10 minute walk and they're in the next-door (gated, but can access via sidewalk) community's playground (jungle gyms, basketball courts, etc). The condos all have 2-3 bedrooms, but the complex itself is definitely not "family friendly".
