Anybody had their HP Spectre Folio Convertible fixed ? Please help

Hi everyone

I’m looking for advice or to hear from anyone who has experienced a similar issue with an HP Spectre Folio convertible laptop (Model: 13-AK0001NI).

The issue started shortly after a Windows update. During normal usage, the laptop would intermittently freeze and the display would become heavily pixelated/distorted with graphical artifacts. At the same time, the device would heat up excessively around the speaker/hinge area below the display.

Initially, after forcing a shutdown, the laptop would boot again and function normally for about 10–15 minutes before freezing, overheating, and becoming pixelated again.

The problem progressively worsened over time. Eventually, the laptop started freezing while loading Windows or at the Windows login screen, making it unusable.

Now the laptop no longer boots properly at all. When powered on, the screen remains completely blank with no display output, although the laptop does power on and still heats up excessively around the hinge/speaker area.

I’ve already taken it to a repair center, but because the Spectre Folio is built into a leather casing, they were reluctant/unable to open it without risking damage.

I wanted to ask:

  • Has anyone else experienced this issue with the HP Spectre Folio?
  • Was the issue repairable?
  • If so, what was the actual fault (GPU, motherboard, display cable, overheating issue, etc.)?
  • Is it worth pursuing repair further, or is this likely a motherboard-level failure that isn’t economically repairable?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
