Sick of seeing trauma in the ICU

I’ve been a bedside nurse for almost 10 years and have worked in various specialties. For the past 4 years I have worked in the ICU and I feel like I can’t handle seeing any more trauma. I used to find everything to be so interesting and now I’m just mortified at some of the things I see.

I recently had to watch a pretty traumatic intubation and I feel like it was the last straw for me. My icu is great and I love my coworkers, but I just don’t think I can handle seeing all of this trauma or depressing diagnoses every time I go to work.

How do you all handle it? I don’t want to switch to a desk job because I’ve done it and I go crazy but I think I need a change.
