24M 24 F Advice out moving in together
25M 24F My girlfriend and I have been together for two years, and we’re starting to talk seriously about moving in together. We both currently live with our parents. My idea was to rent a place together for a year first to see how living together goes before eventually getting engaged and buying a home together.
She doesn’t want to rent and would rather buy something together right away. The issue is that I would be putting down basically the entire down payment. She suggested doing a co-ownership agreement so that we’re both protected and not “throwing money away” on rent by paying toward something we own instead.
I understand her point about building equity instead of renting, but I’m still unsure about putting up the entire down payment on a house before we’ve ever lived together. I’m trying to be smart financially while also moving the relationship forward.
What would you guys do in this situation?
