Aswang and Kormos mythology and pronunciation guide

I am making this as a Filipino because I want people to know more about our pre-colonial culture. I'm also making this because I KNOW people will pronounce both these ghosts incorrectly. Typically it's like getting annoyed at someone who doesn't know the capital of a country which you had to look up, but now the developers have turned to a capital I live in. Metaphorically of course, we're still doing an analogy. I'm also doing the Kormos for symmetry.

Kormos (Türkiye/Turkey)

If I get anything wrong in this one feel free to correct me, I'm not very experienced with this region's folklore.

  • Pronunciation: (kor-MOS) which means blind in Turkish.
  • Plural: kormoses.
  • Mythology: GENERALLY kormoses are blind ghosts which souls can turn into after dying. There are angelic kormoses who do good things for humans and there are demonic kormoses who do bad things. I don't think there is much more to say which doesn't rope in the entirety of Turkish folklore, but again correct me if I'm wrong.

Aswang (Philippines)

  • Pronunciation: (Ahs-WONG) Note: the original word has a foreign (Filipino) sound (/ŋ/) which does not translate fully into english. If you want to say it even more correctly just say the 'ang'/'ong' using the back of your throat.
  • Plural: In the filipino language people use the word 'mga' as a plural marker rather than a suffix like we do in english, but in english you can feel free to add an 's' at the end instead
  • Mythology: The Aswang is a general term for a small group of Filipino monsters, the Viscera consuming version (aka the Manananggal) is what the in game version is based on so I will be focusing on that. The Aswang has a very long and thin tongue which they use to consume internal organs by biting a hole in the victim's flesh and grabbing all the insides with their tongue. During the day they take the form of an attractive woman. During the night they grow wings and detach from their lower half, once they're done hiding their newly amputated part they fly around and search for prey. Afterwards they return to their hiding places and reattach. Aswang are also thought to marry into communities in order to have closer access to food.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go back to hoping this game doesn't get abandoned.

Happy Hunting!
