Yoga 7 2-in-1: slow boot time, no audio, no microphone

I just spent several days fixing my Yoga 7 2-in-1 16AKP10. It's absolutely ridiculous I had to spend this much time fixing several issues. I wanted to post about my experience in case any unlucky soul experiences the same thing as me.

After some amount of time using the laptop, I started experiencing the following:

  1. Extremely slow boot time (~100s)
  2. No audio coming from the speakers, or it was really poor quality.
  3. Built-in microphone wasn't being detected.

These were the causes and solutions:

Problem 1: Boot Time

  • Realtek HD Audio Driver (RTKVHD64.sys) versions 9700 to 9900 were causing the long boot time. I had to install version 6.0.9136.1 specifically from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Problem 2: No Speaker Output

  • I had removed the Dolby Access app at some point. I needed to re-install it from Microsoft Store. I think that I also needed to re-install the DS573482 Realtek + Dolby audio drivers BUT NOT let it overwrite the previously mentioned Realtek driver version.

Problem 3: No Microphone

  • I had to enable the AMD Audio CoProcessor under Device Manager > System devices. Afterwards, I found that I needed to update this to 7.0.3.58 (also obtained from the MS Update Catalog). I needed to make the downloaded file discoverable via pnputil then updated the driver to use it via Device Manager.

After all of this, I also had to block Windows Update from pushing driver updates via Device Installation Settings.

This was truly such a painful experience to fix a newly bought laptop. It took ages to debug what was happening. I would've had a much easier time returning it and getting something else.

If you're currently experiencing something similar, godspeed.
