RAV4 PP 1500W inverter SoC, Black Screen of Death Recall Parts Timeline?
I recently put $1k down on a 2023 XSE Premium and I'm currently in a holding pattern - the dealer has the car on a recall repair for the black screen of death multimedia unit failure for six weeks. I purchased knowing the recall was open, and now waiting on parts with no clear ETA.
It's been with the dealer waiting for recall parts for six weeks already. The display behind the steering wheel is partially disassembled.
If anyone has been through this repair recently, curious what your timeline looked like from parts order to getting your RAV4 back. What's my honest timeline looking like for May, 2026 - how far backordered are these parts?
While I wait, killing time researching the 1500W inverter cargo outlet. Two questions I can't find a clean answer on:
- Will the inverter operate at or near zero traction battery state-of-charge (SoC), or does it refuse to enable below a certain threshold?
- If the battery is depleted and you're running the inverter, does the ICE kick on automatically to sustain the load, essentially acting as a generator, or do you need to manually be in HV mode for that to happen?
Trying to understand if this thing can run indefinitely on gas like a proper generator setup, or if there's a hard floor where it just cuts out. Yes, I'm aware of the caveats, that long duration idle is hard on vehicle ICE engines, if I want generator functionality I should buy a generator, etc. etc. This is more for unanticipated situations where emergency power is needed such as grid down situations. When camping and doing other planned activities, the plan is to roll in with a full traction battery.
Thanks!
