Hey all, I recently got an old Nintendo and would like to try a few Shumps. I've never really played a true Shmup before, so I'm looking for a game that is relatively feasible to beat as a newcomer without cheats while still being fun. I generally enjoy a hard arcade challenge, so I don't mind if a game requires some practice as long as it's fair and the difficulty progression is somewhat reasonable. Basically, I'm looking a well-regarded and fun Shmup that I can realistically complete. Oh, I'm also buying a physical cartridge, so please don't recommend anything too rare or expensive. Thank you!

I generally enjoy a hard arcade challenge, so I don't mind if a game is "NES hard" as long as it's fair and the difficulty progression is somewhat reasonable. Basically, I'm looking a well-regarded and fun Shmup that I can realistically complete. Oh, I'm also collecting physically, so please don't recommend anything with a ridiculous price tag. Thank you!
