I’m (16f) and the oldest child in my family. Yesterday was my 16th birthday and my parents forgot about it.

I didn’t even remind them this year because honestly I’m used to this happening. I can’t really remember the last time my birthday was actually celebrated. Every year there’s always some excuse like “money is tight” or “we’ll do something later,” but somehow that only seems to apply to me.

My younger brother and little sister always get birthdays. Cake, gifts, going out somewhere, family attention, all that stuff. Even for my mom’s birthday we’ll go to a fancy restaurant or make a whole thing out of it. But when it’s my birthday it’s like nobody cares or even remembers.

This year nobody said anything the entire day. Not even a “happy birthday.” I stayed in my room most of the time acting like it didn’t bother me, but it honestly did.

Now I just feel stupid for even being upset about it because birthdays probably sound childish to care about at 16, but at the same time it kinda feels like I matter less in this family.
