Hey guys, I’ve been dealing with a week-long nightmare trying to get an Android/Apple CarPlay unit working properly in my 2012 Honda Civic EX-L with navigation. Multiple eBay sellers kept insisting their units were “plug-and-play” and fully supported steering wheel controls, but that hasn’t been true in my case.
From what I’ve figured out so far, the issue seems to be specific to the 2012 Civic EX-L because it has the extra HandsFreeLink buttons (call/back/voice). The weird part is that those buttons do get recognized by the third-party CANBUS box, but the actual audio controls (volume + track skip) appear to use analog resistance wiring instead of CANBUS, so they don’t work properly with these Android head units.
I’ve already tried multiple CANBUS profiles/settings and spent way too much time debugging this. I really want a true plug-and-play solution and don’t want to start cutting/splicing wires or manually rewiring SWC connections.
Has anyone with a 2012 Civic EX-L successfully installed a CarPlay stereo where all steering wheel controls work properly? If so, what head unit/setup are you using?
Any recommendations would seriously help.
