Please help
I woke up the other day with swelling and pain in my upper premolar area where I previously had a root canal. The pain was mostly in the gums/cheek rather than the tooth itself. My dentist diagnosed an infection and started me on amoxicillin, which has helped a lot — swelling and pain are now much better.
I then saw an endodontist who took a CBCT/3D scan. He said there is significant bone loss around the tooth and that the pattern strongly suggests a fracture, although he said he cannot confirm it with 100% certainty. Because of that, he recommended extraction.
I’m only 21 and I really don’t want to take my tooth out. The endodontist said that his approach is always to try to save the tooth, so the fact that he’s recommending extraction probably means taking a different approach isn’t worth it. I’m feeling almost no pain though and it’s hard for me to believe that my only option is extraction.
