New driver questions (Iowa)

My husband has his B license and currently drives a school bus. But we’ve decided he can make a lot more truck driving.

Would it be better to find a job that will train him or just get it and then find a job? Or does it not matter? He got recommended a class that’ll cost like $1100. He knows he needs to do the written test first and has that scheduled

Also if anyone has recommendations for companies in Des Moines that would have him home daily that would be great.

Also do you get good benefits? I know it depends on the company but overall how is it? He has fantastic benefits right now and we’re worried about losing that.

Also this might be a dumb question but what if he gets in an accident? I’m just an anxious wife who is worried about him getting in an accident and then getting fired and our life falling apart lol 😂

Philosophy degree?

My husband has a bachelors in philosophy. He hasn’t used it since graduating 6 years ago but we’re trying to figure out the best way forward. Would he get hired with this and a paralegal certificate?

No experience necessary jobs recommendation?

I’m trying to help my husband figure out next steps. He has a bachelors degree in philosophy. I love him but not that decision 🙄 but we can’t change it now. He’s 28 and has worked various jobs since college

He worked some temp johs for insurance for a while that was confirming stuff, talking to customers then moved to the kitchen in a nursing home which he didn’t like and now has been a school bus driver for almost 2 years.

It would be ideal if he could make a little more money. The place he worked the tech job at is laying people off all the time so that’s not an option.

He has a mild stutter so anything that requires speaking in an emergency way is probably not ideal- I mean like he probably would struggle as, say, a paramedic because he might not always be able to give immediate directions. But he can speak fine in general.

We live in Des Moines, Iowa, if that helps. Also currently he pulls in about $2500 a month so pretty anything more than that ideally with room to grow is great

Just looking for ideas about where to look or what types of jobs. We can’t afford him going back to school right now although we could probably manage a certificate or something not crazy expensive

Habit changes- early period?

My cycles are pretty consistent but yesterday I started spotting- 2/3 days before my period is due. That NEVER happens. However, I've started taking my weight loss more seriously in the last 2ish weeks- I've cut my calories by 300-500 a day and been walking more. It's not a ton of walking, but compared to my previous activity level it's significant.

I'm curious if this could be causing this spotting? I'm annoyed because I just went to the OB yesterday and told her that my cycle is very consistent. And of course now it's changing.

I'm also concerned because it's the weekend and I'm meant to get day 3 labs this cycle. I've read that Day 1 doesn't count until I need a pad. I don't currently. Is that what everyone else has experienced as well?

Most important swaps

Hello!

We are in the process of swapping out things for non-toxic, less/no plastic, sustainable options. We don't currently own a house and don't have kids.

What would you say is the most important swaps to focus on? My thought is the stuff we put directly on our bodies- beauty products, clothing- and in our bodies- food, food containers. Also cleaning products probably. But let's say you only were able to swap out 5 items in your house- what would you choose?

Mom- retiring teacher

My mom is retiring after 30+ years of teaching. She's a reading interventionist. She loves to read, loves true crime, loves chocolate and smoothies. Probably $50 max.

Water flavoring

Looking for zero or less waste for water flavoring. I hate the taste of normal water and will not drink enough without the flavoring. I’ve tried just fruit and it doesn’t do it for me. But sooo many of these flavorings come in plastic. Looking for anything that’s better than the tiny Stur plastic dropper things I use now

In between exercises?

I’m looking for tips or advice on how to fit in more movement in my day. I know weight loss is mostly diet and I’m working on that too. But I also think I could use more movement just in general.

I’m a therapist though, so I have to sit for hours of my day. I go to a different school everyday so buying a standing desk or whatever for my office isn’t really an option.

I would love some ideas, advice, or routines for what I can do between sessions or on my lunch break to maybe get a little more movement/steps in my day.

Wasn’t sure about flair.

I am school based and I last summer I agreed to continue with some students. It was a disaster- and since 95% of my population is in Medicaid I couldn’t charge for the constant no shows or cancellations. I was lucky to get one or two to show. So this year I’m cutting everyone off. I hate to generalize everyone as I’m sure there are some who would come but I need to be more sure.

But I just feel so bad. It’s so hard to hold this boundary when parents and teachers just keep asking.

Tell me your hard boundaries to keep to make me feel better 😂

I am a social worker who works as a therapist full time. I also recently started consulting for a non-profit serving bereaved parents. Right now I get paid based on what service I provide to the family- various levels/involvement equal different payments. But the CEO recently asked if I’d want to chat about becoming more of a consistent part time employee. It would only be 5-10 hours a week to start, I would maintain my therapist job. It’s still a pretty small organization but growing- we had our annual gala a few weeks ago and doubled our fundraising from last year. There are 2 other consultants that get paid like me right now, the CEO, and a part time administrative assistant.

I’m just trying to figure out what a reasonable ask for salary/hourly pay would be. I’m not counting on this as my income or planning on quitting therapy anytime soon. I’m willing to take a smaller salary than I would maybe otherwise. However I also want to be paid what I’m worth? I just really have no context for what’s appropriate. If it matters we live in a lower cost of living area. Any suggestions or help is much appreciated!
