I'm a full-time Uber driver and I recently saw a post about drivers talking and what it means if they don't. Basically, my rule of thumb is always: Let the passenger talk first. Sometimes people want to chat or are tired and need space. No offense should be taken by either party for just enjoying the ride.
I've had some drivers who were TOO social so I took measures. He loudly goes, "How 'bout those Red Sox?" I leaned and said, "How did you know I was wearing red socks?" in a Boris Karloff voice. It worked...
