In my 2002 crown vic with 175k+ miles; whenever I hit 40mph+ in normal traffic it would lower RPM and make a loud thump noise right after(sometimes its a soft jerk) depending on traffic levels. I checked the transmission fluid and it doesn’t smell burnt and is also a dark red/brown color.
